Payroll and Accounting Associate

Job Summary: The  Payroll and Accounting Associate will be responsible for the execution and oversight of the payroll and benefits administration as well as assisting with Accounts Receivable and Payable function.

Payroll Responsibilities: (70%)

  • Timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll for all salary and hourly for >100 employees
  • Process new hires, terminations and changes within the payroll system
  • Maintain employee files on various internal systems and ensure timely input
  • Timesheet collection, coordination, reconciliation and reporting in Payworks
  • Calculate applicable extra or overtime for input into payroll system
  • Manage deductions and remittances
  • Responsible for any special reporting (ie overtime, vacation etc), as requested
  • Responsible for company group insurance, WSIB submissions, and G/L bookings 
  • Provide timely information to employees regarding payroll and benefits matters
  • Administration of employee benefits
  • Complete year-end processing and reconciliation of T4s

Accounting Responsibilities (30%)

  • Prepare and process banking transactions for pre-authorized payments, electronic funds transfers and wires
  • Provide certain aspects of accounting for corporate entities including analysis of accounts receivable and payables, processing payables and general ledger analysis
  • Complete full cycle A/R function as necessary
  • Weekly/Monthly invoice creation, including revenue reconciliation to G/L
  • Payment processing and cheque runs
  • Selected expense report processing
  • 3rd party reimbursement requests
  • Process customer payments and preparation of deposit slips
  • Maintain accurate and updated customer files
  • Assist with budget reporting and year end audit, when necessary
  • HST filings


  • Bachelor's Degree/College Diploma in Accounting or Finance
  • 3+ years of hands-on payroll experience in a similar capacity
  • Experience with Payworks and Solium is considered an asset
  • Certified Canadian Payroll Designation (PCP, CPM) is an asset
  • Bookkeeping, accounting procedures, and reconciliations experience preferred 
  • Experience with QuickBooks, month-end close and year-end close considered an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and ability  to quickly adapt to new computer systems and software
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well in a team and “get stuff done”
