Five Questions For: Production Technician Anthony Gillibrand
Our Marketing team recently sat down with Anthony Gillibrand, one of MediPharm Labs’ many talented and dedicated Production Technicians. Anthony spends the bulk of his time in the production facility, responsible for producing cannabis derivatives in compliance with federal regulations. His responsibilities include operating supercritical CO2 extraction, milling, decarboxylation, and filtration equipment while adhering to health and safety standards. He is well-versed in performing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Production Practices (GPPs) and is a valuable contributor to the improvement of current procedures and to the overall success of our company.
Anthony joined the MediPharm Labs team in November 2018. Here’s what he had to say about his first year with Canada’s leading cannabis extraction organization:
1. What made you decide to join the MediPharm Labs team?
After hearing of MediPharm Labs second-hand, I looked into the company myself. I was interested in the company’s vision, it seemed very progressive and I liked the thought of being part of a cutting-edge industry. It turns out that MediPharm Labs is everything I hoped it would be and it’s been a year of challenging, but exciting advancements for us. What I like most about my role here is the aspect of critical thinking and the challenges involved in trailblazing within a new and exciting industry.
2. If you could switch jobs with another MediPharm employee for a day, who would you swap with? Why?
If I could swap jobs with someone for a day it would have to be with someone in our Quality Control department. I would love to have the opportunity to try my hand at our High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) instrument!
3. What have you learned since joining the MediPharm team that you didn’t know before you started?
I have learned how crucial it is to have open and progressive conversations with all levels of coworkers and how those conversations ultimately make us a more cohesive team. Communication is critical in a pharma grade environment and being open makes for a better workplace.
4. What three qualities do you bring to your work at MediPharm Labs?
I think the three best qualities that I bring to the MediPharm Labs team would be my skills at working in a lab environment, my knack for mentorship and my sense of humour. We all work really hard here at MediPharm Labs and it's nice to be able to have a few laughs from time to time. Work hard, play hard.
5. If you could have coffee with anyone on earth, who would it be?
If I had the chance, I would have coffee with English broadcaster and historian David Attenborough. The guy has obviously seen a lot in his life and I would love to pick his brain.
